Michigan State College specialists Emery Petchauer and Ruth Nicole Brown clarify what marks August 11, 2023, because the fiftieth anniversary of hip-hop and dig into the significance of the milestone.
Petchauer, a professor within the English division, focuses on the aesthetic practices of city arts, significantly hip-hop tradition, and their connections to instructing, studying, and residing. He’s the writer of the primary scholarly examine of hip-hop tradition on faculty campuses, and the co-editor of Schooling Hip-Hop: Expanding Hip-Hop Based Education Across the Curriculum (Academics School Press, 2013 ) .
Brown is an MSU Analysis Basis Professor and the inaugural chair of the African American and African research division. She is the writer of Black Girlhood Celebration: Toward a Hip-Hop Feminist Pedagogy (Peter Lang, 2009), and coauthor of Wish to Live: The Hip-Hop Feminism Pedagogy Reader (Peter Lang, 2012) with Chamara Kwakye, a tutorial specialist within the MSU Division of African American and African Research.
