Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Democrat of New York, gave a strong speech on the Home ground Wednesday, slamming the <\/span>passing<\/a> of the <\/span>Laken Riley Act<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n “I would like the American folks to know with eyes broad open what’s inside this invoice, as a result of we stand right here simply two days after President Trump gave unconditional pardons to violent criminals who attacked our nation’s Capitol on January sixth,\u201d she mentioned, referring to Donald Trump\u2019s <\/span>blanket pardon<\/a> of greater than 1,500 insurrectionists.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cAnd these are the individuals who need you to consider\u2014who need us to consider\u2014that they are making an attempt to ‘maintain criminals off the road,\u2019\u201d Ocasio-Cortez added.<\/span><\/p>\n She then mounted in on the <\/span>most serious critique of the bill<\/a>, which is that noncitizens danger dropping the best to due course of, permitting for the detention of immigrants merely <\/span>accused<\/em> of against the law.<\/span><\/p>\n “So when a non-public jail camp opens in your city and so they say \u2018we did not know this was going to occur,\u2019 know that they did, and so they voted for it,\u201d Ocasio-Cortez mentioned.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cWhen a dreamer is <\/span>disappeared<\/em> out of your classroom, when the president of the USA destroys what’s left of the Structure\u2014as he is introduced in his assault on birthright citizenship\u2014they are going to all say, \u2018we did not know this was coming,\u2019\u201d she concluded. \u201cAnd I would like the American folks to know that they did. This vote represents it.”<\/span><\/p>\n
