On this World Press Freedom Day, the Information/Media Alliance pays tribute to all journalists in recognition of their very important service to their communities. Journalists go to nice lengths to tell communities and maintain governments accountable, typically at nice threat to their very own private security or liberty. It’s incumbent upon us all to demand that governments fulfill their duties to respect press freedoms.
From the police raid on the Marion County File newsroom in Kansas, the homicide of investigative journalist Jeff German in Las Vegas, to the continued wrongful detainment of American Wall Road Journal reporter Evan Gershkovich in Russia, it’s clear that now we have an extended method to go in securing press freedoms each at dwelling and throughout the globe. The newly launched World Press Freedom Index by Reporters With out Borders sheds additional mild on the continuing threats to press freedom that journalists face all over the world.
The Alliance is devoted to advocating for higher press freedoms and protections, together with most imminently for the passage of the PRESS Act which might give journalists a much-needed federal reporter protect regulation.
