Luis Rubiales, the Spanish soccer chief, has resigned from his submit days after prosecutors filed a felony grievance towards him over alleged sexual assault for kissing a feminine participant on the World Cup.
In an announcement late on Sunday, Rubiales mentioned he had submitted his resignation as president of the Royal Spanish Soccer Federation, a task from which he had already been suspended for 90 days by Fifa, the sport’s governing physique, as condemnation of his conduct mounted.
“After the swift suspension by Fifa, plus the remainder of the proceedings towards me, it’s clear that I won’t be able to return to my place,” Rubiales mentioned. Claiming he was dealing with “unconscionable persecution”, he added: “I’ll defend my honour. I’ll defend my innocence.”
